RADAR SIMULATION PROGRAMS:

A320 WXR-700X Weather Radar Simulation System (WRSS). Developed commercial weather radar simulator for a level D A320. This WRSS generates realistic radar images for generic landmass and weather patterns. It simulates all functions of the WXR-700X radar, including Forward Looking Windshear simulation.

B-52H AN/APQ-166 Radar Simulation System (RSS). Developed a Digital Radar Landmass Simulation of the AN/APQ-166 radar for the B-52H Weapons Systems Trainer (WST). This is a 360° PPI or sector scan radar image, with features including spotlighting, ground tracking, and terrain avoidance. It provides a seamless Worldwide Database.

C-2A Weather Radar Simulation System (WRSS). Developed WRSS system to produce all weather, target and terrain return imagery on an aircraft MFD-255M in ARINC-708 format for two C-2A Operational Flight Trainers.

C-141 Weapons System Trainer Radar Simulation Systems (RSS). Developed and delivered seven RSS devices for the Air Force suite of C-141 WSTs, simulating the AN/APS-133 Weather Radar. The initial RSS delivery provided a custom video interface to stimulate an aircraft AN/APS-133 Indicator. A subsequent RSS modification provides simulated radar imagery in ARINC-453 format at a 200 Hz iteration rate for stimulating MFD-255M aircraft display equipment. It is a stand-alone, ruggedized system that communicates with the host computer via RS-232.


CN235 AN/APS-133 Weather Radar Simulation System (WRSS). Produced a WRSS for the CN235 Operational Flight Trainer. This system simulates all functions of the AN/APS-133 Multifunctional Digital Color Radar, including landmass, weather, targets, beacons and IFF displays.

E-2C Hawkeye Trainer. Developed an AN/APS-145 Radar Simulation System (RSS) for a deployable radar operator training system. This RSS drives three radar consoles from a single PC-based RSS, using PCI-based Primagraphics scan converter cards.

E-3D AN/APS-133 Weather Radar Simulation System (WRSS). Developed a radar simulator for incorporation into an E-3D Full Flight Simulator. This system provides simulated air and ground returns to simulate the AN/APS-133 radar performance. This WRSS includes two custom-built, simulated Multi-Function Displays (MFDs).


E-6 Operational Flight Trainers (OFT) Developed two AN/APS-133 Weather Radar Simulation Systems (WRSS) for OFTs as part of a trainer modernization upgrade. Each WRSS drives two actual aicraft MFDs via ARINC-708 digital video format.

EA-6B Weapon System Trainer (WST). Provided radar simulation consulting support for upgrading the Digital Radar Landmass System (DRLMS) on the WST.

F/A-18 Weapons Tactics Trainer (WTT) Simulation Software Support. Provided F/A-18 simulator software support for AGP-73 fire control radar, EW, avionics, weapons modeling and low-level interfaces in support of the WTT trainer suite.

F-14D Weapons System Trainer (WST) and Mission Function Trainer (MFT). Developed three DRLMS systems for replacing older architecture Artificial Radar Image Generator as part of a major rehost program to the WST and MFT devices. This system provides realistic simulation of air and ground returns for the APG-71 radar system. Provided a Database Generation System (DBGS) for editing and/or creating new radar database areas.
 


 
F-14D Digital Radar Landmass Simulator

 

F-14 Mission Trainer. Provided software support for incorporating a modernized Digital Radar Landmass System (DRLMS) and graphics display system into the existing MT device. Developed software for simulating numerous Electronic Warfare (EW) effects. Developed a PC-based GUI cockpit emulation program to facilitate trainer software development in lieu of a trainer cockpit.

Hawk Full Mission Simulator (FMS) Developed AN/APG-66H Radar Simulation System for a customer in Asia to replace a legacy DRLMS system. This RSS realistically simulates all Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground modes and functions of the AN/APG-66H radar as implemented on the British Hawk aircraft.

HH-60 and HH-65 RDR-1300 Weather Radar Simulation Systems. Developed two RDR-1300 radar simulators for incorporation into US Coast Guard HH-60 and HH-65 flight simulators. These units provide geospecific gaming areas including customized features for bouys and numerous airfields. Both units output RS-170 radar video to cockpit displays.

Procedures Trainer (APT)

 


JSTARS (E-8) FMR-200X (WXR-700X) Weather Radar Simulation System. Developed four WRSS units for incorporation into a suite of JSTARS flight simulators, including both copilot and navigator stations. This WRSS includes windshear detection and target tracking capabilities.

KC-130T AN/APS-133 Digital Radar Landmass Simulator (DRLMS). Developed radar simulator for incorporation into a KC-130T Aircrew Procedures Trainer (APT). This DRLMS provides weather and ground return images simulating the performance of the AN/APS-133 radar system. It provides two independent radar display stations, including a navigation station.

 

MD80 Airline Crash Movie Special Effects. Produced simulated weather radar imagery for the Cineflix movie, "Mayday Air Disaster - Racing the Storm". This documentary re-enacts the crash of American Airlines Flight 1420 in Little Rock, AK in 1999. This crash was due to severe weather; therefore, the radar played a major role in the re-enactment. The weather radar imagery was recreated using the BRS Weather Radar Simulation System, based on FAA weather data and descriptions from the pilot voice recording.

MH-60R AN/APS-147 Radar Simulation System. Developed five radar simulators for MH-60R Tactical Operational Flight Trainers (TOFT). This DRLMS provides weather and ground return images simulating the performance of the AN/APS-147 radar system. It provides realistic Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) simulation of surface vessel targets, as well as a sophisticated target tracking capability for stimulating aircraft Mission Computer equipment.

Norwegian Sea King Helicopter RDR-1300 and RDR-1500 Radar Simulators. Developed software for the RDR-1300 and RDR-1500 Digital Radar Landmass (DRLMS) devices, and integrated with the Royal Norwegian Air Force's Sea King System Operator Trainer.

RC-135W Radar Part Task Trainer (RPTT). Developed a stand-alone high-performance Digital Radar Landmass Simulation (DRLMS) of the AN/APN-242 radar for the USAF RC-135W, including a Worldwide Database. An advanced Instructor Operator Station (IOS) provides a 3-D terrain relief map, combined with GUI menus for controlling the training scenarios. A sophisticated 6 degree of freedom autopilot model controls the ownship and tanker models. RPTTs can be operated separately, or networked together to a common single IOS.
 


 
WRSS for KC-130T APT

RC-135W Radar Simulation System (RSS). Developed a high-performance Digital Radar Landmass Simulation (DRLMS) of the AN/APN-242 radar for the USAF RC-135W Operational Flight Trainer (OFT). This system provides a 360-degree PPI or sector scan radar image, with features including terrain mapping, weather detection, and beacon and skin paint target detection. The video output drives multiple aircraft displays via 875-line RS-343 video, as well as a simulated radar indicator. It provides a seamless Worldwide Database.

SH-60B Radar Simulation System (RSS). Developed Radar Simulation System for the AN/APS-124 radar. This system interfaces with actual aircraft Signal Data Processor via a custom interface system to transmit radar imagery over live Data Link transmissions to shipboard radar consoles for testing avionics interoperability.

T-39 APG-66 Air Intercept Radar Trainer (AIRT) and Ground Mapping Radar Trainer (GMRT). Developed 10 radar simulation systems that simulate all air-to-air and air-to-ground functions and imagery for the APG-66 radar.

Taiwanese Indigenous Defensive Fighter (IDF) Advanced Flight Simulator (AFS). Developed fire control radar simulation software for an APG-67 air-to-air and air-to-ground fire control radar simulation for the Taiwan Air Force IDF AFS full mission flight simulator. Also provided video system design expertise for updating a complex instructor system involving RS-343, RS-170, calligraphic and high-resolution raster video formats.


 
VH-60N Presidential helicopter

 

VH-60N Digital Radar Landmass Simulator (DRLMS). Developed radar simulator for incorporation into the VH-60N Aircrew Procedures Trainer. This DRLMS provides all air and ground return images simulating the performance of the RDR-1300 radar system as implemented in the Presidential VH-60 helicopter. It provides RS-170 video to two actual aircraft radar displays.

CUSTOM EMBEDDED SYSTEMS PROGRAMS:  

B-1B Cockpit Procedures Trainer (CPT) Graphics System. Produced PC-based graphics system software to replace a legacy graphics system for driving all cockpit and instructor station displays. This system emulates legacy Matrox-based graphics systems with standard COTS PCs and graphics cards, such that no changes were required to the host simulation computer.
C-17 Mission Computer Display Emulator. Developed an Embedded Graphic System (EGS) that was incorporated into simulated aircraft displays to emulate the ARINC-429 interface of the actual aircraft equipment and produce graphics displays in real-time based on commands from a simulation host computer. The EGS software executes on a PC/104 CPU with expansion interface card.

F/A-18 Part Task Trainer (PTT) Cockpit Display Interface System (CDIS). Produced CDIS system to provide the following functions for the PTT:
  • Provide analog and discrete I/O to/from eight cockpit display bezels
     
  • Generate real-time aural cues
     
  • Generate RS-170 video for two independent Engine Fuel Displays (EFD).

 
F/A-18 WTT Dome

 
F-18 Weapons Tactics Trainer (WTT) Target Projector Interface (TPI) system. Developed a stand-alone, PC-based interface system that autonomously extracts real-time simulation data from the WTT host computer reflective memory network, processes target data, and drives five pairs of target projectors that generate high-fidelity target images on the WTT dome surface for up to five simultaneous independent targets.
 
CH-46E Weapon System Trainer (WST) Communication Navigation Control System (CNCS). Developed software for a stand-alone VME-based interface system to integrate aircraft CNCS equipment with an existing CH-46E WST. This embedded PC software communicates with a Night Hawk host computer via reflective memory, and controls I/O devices to provide the following interfaces: MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 407, ARINC 429, Discrete I/O and RS-422.
Flo-Dar Embedded Flow Monitor Device. Developed all software for the Marsh-McBirney Flo-Dar monitor. This software runs on an embedded PC104 form factor 386 processor, and provides real-time control over a remote sensor for monitoring flow, velocity and level of liquids in a pipe. It also provides a user-interface for setting parameters and displaying data using an LCD touchscreen.
 

HOST COMPUTER PROGRAMS:  

F/A-18 Weapons Tactics Trainer (WTT) Host Computer. Provided five real-time, auxiliary host computer platforms and software development environment using the Linux operating system with real-time kernel extensions. Incorporated the PC-based system as an additional host computer system to the two existing Encore 91 series host computers on each WTT. Integrated PC with the Encore hosts via reflective memory, thereby providing seamless parallel processing. Developed software tools to facilitate the migration of existing WTT code to the PC host, including support for Encore Datapool and Fortran-77.

Southern California Edison Power Plant Simulator.
Provided a real-time host computer platform and software development environment using the Linux operating system with real-time kernel extensions.

Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) Simulator.
Provided an RT-Linux based, real-time host computer platform and software development environment for use on the AAAV simulator program.

MAN/MACHINE INTERFACES:  

B-1 Weapon Systems Trainer (WST) Instructor Operator Station (IOS). Provided third-party support for a major upgrade to the B-1 WST to incorporate FalconView map presentation software to the IOS.


E-2C Hawkeye Flight Simulator Instructor Operator Station (IOS).
Provided third-party support to design and develop a sophisticated Linux-based user-friendly IOS for controlling and graphically depicting a complex array of targets for the trainer gaming area.


F/A-18 Part Task Trainer (PTT) Offline Library Generator (OLG).
Developed GUI program for Linux Xwindows environment, allowing the user to develop and maintain library files defining target definitions and formations, ground objects, weapons loading and waypoint routes.


P-3 Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) Instructor Graphical Workstation (IGW) and Digital Audio System (DAS).
Developed a modernized system to replace the P-3 IGW and DAS system. This system provides a dual-monitor, user-friendly GUI instructor/operator station that controls and monitors the P-3 OFT environment. In addition, the same PC-based system provides the real-time aural cue simulation.


Radar Video Simulator (RVS).
Developed user interface software program for the Telemechanics RVS device, which generates simulated targets in a variety of signal formats for stimulating actual shipboard radar equipment. This software program performs the following functions:
  • Provides real-time control over the embedded RVS device
     
  • Provides a Visual Basic GUI front-end that allows user control over all aspects of the trainer
     
  • Serves as host computer to simulate the real-time motion of the ownship and up to 512 independent targets.

Southern California Edison Power Plant Simulator. Provided software support for porting existing simulation from Encore host to the PC host, and developed an XWindows GUI front-end that provides user control over the simulator.

FLIGHT SIMULATION SOFTWARE SUPPORT:
 

B-1B Maintenance Training Equipment. Provided software support for rehosting and upgrading the B-1B MTE simulator. Ported Ada simulation code from an Encore 97 platform to PowerPC running under VxWorks.

B-1B Weapon System Trainer (WST).
Provided software support for a major upgrade of simulated B-1B avionics.

MH-53 Operational Flight Trainer (OFT).
Provided software support for rehosting simulation software from an Encore 32/97 to a Concurrent NightHawk 6804. This effort included design implementation and integration support for executive control software as well as interface software development for Ethernet, ARINC 429, RS-422, RS-232, reflective memory and asynchronous disk control.

T-1A Flight Simulator
Provided software support to incorporate Flight Management System (FMS) software from aircraft navigation equipment into a simulator host computer. Also developed software for managing navigation database files.

E-2C Device 2F166 Flight Simulator.
Provided software support for improving the simulated aerodynamic performance of the E-2C simulator.

E-2C Hawkeye Flight Simulator.
Provided third-party software engineering support for modeling various avionics and ECM systems.
